Overweight problems seen even in infants (Reuters)

Reuters - New research indicates that problems associated with being overweight occur at a much younger age than buy deanol bitartrate thought.

For most of us, food has been a reward all of our lives. Remember any of these old sayings: "Eat all of your dinner, then you can have dessert." (Imagine, being rewarded for eating with eating!) "If you're good, you can have a cookie." Some of us even remember doctors beta alanine dentists giving us suckers (these guys were no fools-they guaranteed return business!). Now, drive-up bank tellers often give candy to the youngsters in cars. Seems like kids are rewarded just for being kids--usually with a sweet treat.

All behavior is learned. If you reward yourself at the end of a hard day or for staying on a diet for a certain number of days or hours, you probably learned to do that as a young child. This rewarding behavior may have been reinforced often and today you may not even be aware that you are doing it. This is a behavior that worked for you as a child, when you were not in control of your life. Now that your are an adult and learning to be in control of your own life, it is imperative that you recognize these "old tapes" and make new choices about how to live your life. Since all behavior is learned, you can learn a different behavior whenever you decide to.

Awareness without judgment is the first step toward new and healthier behaviors. Pay attention to when you eat and you're not hungry. Decide what you are feeling, what motivated you to eat. Then ask yourself' "When was the first time I felt this feeling and then ate?" You may not get answers at first but be persistent. The answers will come to you and those "Ah-ha's" will be the first steps toward your behavior changes.

After you find out what drives you to eat when you're not hungry, ask yourself, "What can I do or give to myself other than food that will better fulfill me." Again, persist in asking and the answers will give you the information you need to create new, healthier behaviors.
